In America today, more than ever before, the field of Hispanic ministry is ready for harvest. More than thirty million Spanish-speaking people work and reside in America today. The command to take the gospel to every creature still rings true.
The Gwen Hendrix Hispanic Bible Institute, located in Inman, South Carolina, began one year ago with the mission of training men and women to go into American cities and plant Bible-preaching Hispanic churches that would become centers for evangelism and worship for Hispanic communities. Many answer the call to go and serve. Some are single, young men willing to serve God. In other cases, entire families sell everything or just give it away to come, train, and serve God wherever He leads. All have the same desire at heart—to take the gospel to a lost Hispanic culture and share with them life in Christ.
On Saturday, December 17th, 2004, the Gwen Hendrix Hispanic Bible Institute held commencement exercises for the second graduating class. Fourteen new students will begin the next term in January. Each of these men and women will participate in five months (over 700 hours) of intensive, college-level Bible classes and classroom instruction, approximately 200 hours of practical ministry experience and numerous opportunities to serve and minister in local Free Will Baptist churches. All alumni currently serve in some capacity in Free Will Baptist churches across the nation. The future holds exciting days for students, professors, and supporters of the institute as God works through students to touch the lives of the Hispanic population in America.
The recent Hispanic migration into America provides an incredible opportunity. God has opened a great door of ministry. Many grope in darkness and confusion, awaiting the message of salvation.
