COLLEGE RECEIVES PRESIDENT’S HONOR ROLL AWARD

MOORE, OK The Corporation for National and Community Service recently named Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for exemplary service to disadvantaged youth.

President Timothy W. Eaton said, “Hillsdale is proud to receive this award which honors the volunteer spirit of our staff and students in service through a wide range of activities. The Hillsdale Motto is ‘Service to Christ.’ I believe we honor Christ by serving Him through our Churches and community.”

The Community Service Honor Roll is the highest federal recognition any school can achieve for its commitment to service-learning and civic engagement. Honorees for the award were chosen based on a series of selection factors including scope and innovativeness of service projects, percentage of student participation in service activities, incentives for service, and the extent to which the school offers academic service-learning courses.

Students and staff of Hillsdale continue to meet and extend the challenge to serve Christ. The Hillsdale Saints have been involved in service through benevolence, blood drives, children’s ministry, City Rescue Mission (each Thursday before classes a group serves breakfast), Christian education, drug-free campaign (Red Ribbon Week for Moore), The Hanna Project (Christian Humanitarian tours into Africa and western Asia), music ministry, nursing home services, preaching the Gospel, Red Cross, Salvation Army, tutoring students, and Youth ministry.

Hillsdale College Students

Hillsdale FWB College students also participate in community outreach as tutors at the Moore Public Library. The primary beneficiaries are from the Moore Public School, but the Tuesday program is open to the public at large. Moore Public Library Director Lisa Wells stated, “Hillsdale was instrumental in making the program a reality for junior and senior high school students in need of assistance. The program has been overwhelmingly successful.”

When congratulating the winners, U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings said, “Americans rely on our higher education system to prepare students for citizenship and the workforce. We look to institutions like these to provide leadership in partnering with local schools to shape the civic, democratic and economic future of our country.”

TENNESSEE GOLFERS WIN REGIONAL TOURNAMENT

Ft. Gaines, GA Fifty-eight golfers spent 3 days playing golf in what many would consider perfect weather for golf. With temperatures in the mid 70s and a light breeze, it was once again ideal conditions to tee up the little white ball.

New faces made a big impact on this year s Master's Men Deep South Golf Tournament.

Matt and Andy Walkley from Millington, TN led the field from start to finish. With back to back 65 s for a fourteen under par, they took a 1 stroke lead into the final round. Then they distanced themselves by ending with a 10-under-par 62.

"Master's Men appreciates all the guys who played and all our hole sponsors for making this year another successful event," said Director Ken Akers. "Make plans now to join us March 25-27, 2009 for next year s tournament."
