Jennifer Brooks Named CLEAR Teacher of the Year
Now that the votes have been counted, congratulations are in order for this year’s Teacher of the Year: Jennifer Brooks from Hillview Free Will Baptist Church in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.
Jennifer is the preschool teacher at her church, and she has made a great connection with each of her students. Pastor Bill Hayes says she is very involved with the kids’ lives. She takes time to get to know each boy and girl, and she often teaches from the floor to connect with her students in a more personal way. Other teachers admire the way she encourages her students’ parents to review the lesson with their children. She does this by giving them the materials they need each week and by using a point system to record how well the principles they learned in class were developed during the week.
Jennifer often thinks outside the box and goes out of her way to help the children in her class enjoy learning from God’s Word. She even took time out of her week to build a cardboard boat and help her children experience, rather than just learn, the story of Paul’s shipwreck.
As CLEAR Teacher of the Year, Brooks has received 3 days, 2 nights stay at the 2008 national convention. This prize includes transportation allotment, food, and lodging. She also has won a $200 decorating allowance for her classroom and a $100 gift card to Randall Bookstore.
This award is sponsored by Randall House. If you would like to place a nomination for the 2010 Teacher of the Year, visit www.randallhouse.com. CLEAR Curriculum – Powered by D6
From its inception, CLEAR curriculum has employed a family emphasis. Having the entire family on the same biblical theme is an intentional effort to get the family talking about what was studied in Sunday School and small groups. Family links, and now Splinks, are more resources for the family to apply the principles of the lessons.
Along the way it became evident–CLEAR curriculum is D6 curriculum. D6 is a term Randall House uses to express our philosophy of Christian education. Basing our philosophy on Deuteronomy 6, we have focused attention on the responsibility of parents to educate their children in the Word of God and to become Christ followers. To drive this point even closer to the heart of what we do, we have adopted the name D6 curriculum. We still use the CLEAR Learning System: CONNECT, LEARN, EXPLORE, APPLY, AND RESPOND to teach the lessons. We just want to make it clear; God’s philosophy of education is found in Deuteronomy 6.

Randall House Receives Gift of Labor From Wheeler Inc.
Painting the outside of the Randall House building has been on a list of needs “for three years” said Ron Hunter Jr. It’s just that the CEO of the non-profit ministry resource center “could never justify the cost” with all of the other priorities of the growing company.
That is, until Wheeler Inc. called in the early spring of 2008.
Wheeler Inc. has served the heating and air-conditioning needs of Randall House for over five years. Clarence Lewis, COO of Randall House, said, “Wheeler has done an excellent job on our air conditioning system. We have been very satisfied with their service and quality of work.” The company also does miscellaneous construction jobs.
“When [Wheeler] asked us what more he could do to be a part of our mission as a non-profit by donating back to us, the one area we needed most that his crew could provide was a drastically needed facelift to our aging building,” said Hunter.
David Wheeler, owner of the successful company, called looking for a way to help. He and his son (who currently manages most of the business) often look for ways to make charitable donations to churches, non-profit organizations, and individuals in need. It just so happens that the church Wheeler attends, Good Springs Free Will Baptist Church, uses the curriculum Randall House produces. The connection is obvious. Wheeler considered the work his company donated to be “one of the greater honors” he has had.
The labor was provided under the leadership of project manager Ronnie Clinard. Randall House supplied the paint. Over all, employees of Wheeler spent about 3 weeks (over 200 hours) working on the outside of the building (pictured above), saving Randall House approximately $15,000.
Wheeler, on his reasoning for donating to Randall House, said, “When God has been good, you try to be good to others in return. I’m living a dream. I’ve been relatively successful. For me to be able to give back is a great blessing to me.”
Hunter responded by saying “David’s contribution is more than a new coat of paint. It allows our building’s image to the public to look more like the high quality products we produce.”

Vertical Three
Daniel 3 records the story of three young men who faced a trial of their faith. These young men had been removed from their homes and the influence of their family and peers. They overcame the temptation to compromise and defile themselves. Then they were confronted with a life-or-death decision. When given one last chance, they affirmed their commitment to stand firm in their faith.
They refused to bow to the pressure to conform. They did not follow the crowd in worshiping a false god. Faithfulness to their God was worth their very lives. They trusted that the Creator of the universe was more powerful than a man-made god of gold. Not knowing the outcome, they stood firm in the face of death. They literally walked through the fire.
This strength of character and perseverance is only possible when one is grounded in the faith. Equipping young believers to be true to the faith is the goal of Vertical Three—the new name for Student and Children’s Ministry. This goal is achieved through three avenues: ministry development, service and leadership training, and youth worker resources.
Ministry development is the purpose for Bible Competition and the Music and Arts Festival. This program is intended to help young people discover, develop, and dedicate their talents to God’s service. Service and leadership training is being accomplished through programs like Reach That Guy, Truth and Peace Leadership Conference, and the National Youth Evangelistic Team.
Youth worker resources include networking opportunities such as the Gathering at the Youth Pastor Summit in Orlando, training seminars at the NYC, and developing ministry tools.
The National Youth Conference is continuing to expand to accomplish all three goals. Training programs for youth this year include biblical creation instruction through Answers in Genesis/Creation Museum, Global Purpose Seekers seminars for teens to learn how to discern the will of God, and additional opportunities to equip youth workers.
