materials available for 2006 international missions Emphasis month
ANTIOCH, TN—Materials for International
Missions Emphasis Month and the
World Missions Offering based on the
2006 theme, Every Tribe . . . Every Nation,
are now available. Similar to the toolkit
provided for 2005, the free pastor’s/leader’s manual contains a themed
sermon starter, children’s sermons, and
other helpful resources. The National
Association has designated April as International Missions Emphasis Month.
Theme oriented bulletin inserts,
bulletin covers, offering envelopes, and
banners are designed to assist churches
in highlighting missions throughout the
month. Children’s coloring pages and
theme art can be downloaded from the
IM website.
New material this year includes “How
to Have a Missions Banquet.” Disposable
placemats and napkins are available to enhance this experience. “We determined to have supplies
available by the end of 2005,” says Mark McPeak, director of communications, “after discovering some churches have
their emphasis early in the year. Materials
are undated, allowing for use whenever
the church calendar dictates.”
The World Missions Offering culminates
the month-long emphasis on the
last Sunday of April. Offering envelopes
are available to help designate giving
for the WMO.
Visit the International Missions website

THREE BAPTIZED IN SPAIN
VILLALBA, SPAIN More than 60 people gathered beside a local river on Sunday, September 4, to witness the baptism of three young women. Jhon Fredy, the Villalba congregation’s pastor-in-training, gave a clear gospel presentation to unsaved family members and friends present.
The national diversity of the three baptized reflects the diversity of the church. Carmen (Spanish), Daiana (Romanian), and Luz Elena (Colombian) gave their individual testimonies of coming to faith in Christ and the change He has made in their lives.
LYTLES MINISTER IN EUROPE
MADRID, SPAIN Director of Field Operations Steve Lytle and his wife Judy traveled to
Spain on September 13. Steve and Judy visited the missionary families in Spain
(Johnson, McVay, Donahue and Edgmon) and each of the FWB churches in the Madrid
area. On September 17, the executive committee (Lytle, Spanish pastor José Manuel
Parrón and Uruguayan pastor Gerardo Acevedo) of the International Fellowship of Free
Will Baptist Churches met. Steve spoke at the Villalba and Colmenar Viejo churches on
September 18, while Gerardo preached at José Manuel’s church the same day.
On September 22, the Lytles traveled to France with Sam and June McVay and met
with Steve Riggs, Jerry Gibbs, and Dennis Teague at Biarritz for a time of fellowship
and to discuss the International Fellowship meeting scheduled for 2007 in France and
Spain. The couple then traveled to Nantes with Steve, Jerry, and Dennis and spent the
next week visiting the missionaries in Nantes, Saint Nazaire, Saint Sebastien,
Albertville, and Aix-en-Provence before returning to Spain the first weekend of October
for a service at José Manuel’s church in Alcala de Henares on October 2.
“There were many highlights for us on this trip,” Steve said. “In addition to visiting
our missionaries in France and Spain, visiting believers in several churches, and sightseeing
historical and scenic areas of both countries, we participated in a prayer walk
in Alpedrete, Spain, where the Johnsons and Edgmons are beginning a new church planting
effort.”
Steve and Judy urge believers to pray for France and Spain since both countries
have fewer than one percent evangelical believers. The Lytles returned to the States
October 4.

ITA PARTNERSHIP FORMED
ATLANTA, GA The International Training Alliance (ITA) Council was established on Saturday, October 15, 2005, with representatives from the following partnering mission
organizations: Wycliffe Bible Translators, Operation Mobilization, Christian and Missionary Alliance, Caleb, Tentmakers, and Free Will Baptists. David Cummings, former international president of Wycliffe Bible Translators was elected President.
The partnership between these Groups allows them to take advantage of the wisdom and
experience of the leaders of each organization. The partnership agreement is for a four year term. At the end of that time ITA and FWBIM will reevaluate the agreement.
Jeff Turnbough, missionary to Spain, participated in the meeting and training.
According to Turnbough, “An integral part of our work is leadership development, and
that is at the heart of the International Training Alliance.” Missionaries to France Robert Bryan and Dennis Teague also participated in the weeklong LMC training classes.
Bryan called the course “an indispensable part of our leadership development program in France.”
ITA’s purpose is to provide leadership training for mission and national leaders
around the world. FWB missionaries attended the “Leadership Matters Course” at the
Operation Mobilization headquarters near Atlanta following the formation of the
partnership. The next LMC will be in São Paulo, Brazil, and missionaries Jeff and Susan Turnbough will participate. Courses are planned for Cameroon (Africa),
Capetown (South Africa), Katmandu (Nepal), France, Brisbane (Australia), and Manila (Philippines) in 2006.
The course focuses on practical leadership skills: confidence, biblical relationships, communication, motivation, management, ministry, creative thinking, decisionmaking, public relations, and enthusiasm. The course does not include biblical or
theological training, allowing denominational entities to maintain their distinctives.
MISSIONARIES MEET
ANTIOCH, TN Missionaries to Côte d’Ivoire gathered at the International Missions office in Antioch, Tennessee, on October 11. Those not already on stateside assignment had been directed to leave the war-torn country in August. They met with Regional Director Clint Morgan, General Director James Forlines, and Director of Field Operations Steve Lytle.
Alice Smith, Jerry and Carol Pinkerton, and Verlin and Debbie Anderson wanted to establish a timeline for returning to their country of ministry. Unless war is declared, or it is determined the missionaries’ presence would endanger Ivorians, the Pinkertons will return to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire on December 26. The Andersons and Miss Smith are making arrangements to return to the African nation in January 2006.
